Cervical Braces
Cervical braces (such as the Schanz collar) are worn after neck operations and injuries: for fractures or dislocations of the cervical vertebrae, strained muscles, ligaments and tendons, when the neck needs to be immobilised, and for torticollis and osteochondrosis. The range includes soft, semi-rigid and rigid braces.

Cervical braces — how to choose
Cervical braces enclose the cervical spine and limit bending, turning and sideways movement of the head. By rigidity they fall into the following groups.
What to look for
- Soft braces are used to treat conditions and injuries of the soft tissues of the cervical spine, when fixation is needed, and in the post-operative period. They are often recommended for daytime wear or during increased load.
- Semi-rigid braces include elements that make them firmer than an ordinary soft collar.
- Rigid braces, such as the Philadelphia collar, are used when firm immobilisation of the neck is needed, including after operations. They are made of plastic.
Quality and support
All cervical braces are CE-marked medical devices. The rigidity should be agreed with a doctor; our specialists will help with the size.
Frequently asked questions
What is a Philadelphia collar?
The Philadelphia collar is a rigid plastic cervical brace that provides firm immobilisation of the neck, for example after injuries or operations.
Which cervical brace should I choose?
A soft collar suits light support and pain relief, a semi-rigid one provides more fixation, and a rigid collar is for firm immobilisation. The rigidity for your condition is determined by a doctor.
