Wheelchairs

Wheelchairs are intended for people with significant mobility impairments, for use indoors and outdoors. Our range includes self-propelled (hand-rim) steel and lightweight models, as well as comfort and transport wheelchairs pushed by an attendant.

Wheelchairs — how to choose

A wheelchair is intended for people with significant impairments of mobility, physical endurance or coordination. Most models can be used both indoors and outdoors and folded easily to fit, for example, in a car boot. Below we explain how to choose the right type.

Choosing by how it is propelled

The main choice is between a self-propelled wheelchair and one pushed by an attendant. Self-propelled (hand-rim) wheelchairs can be propelled by the user via the large rear wheels or pushed by an attendant. Transport wheelchairs with small rear wheels can only be pushed by an attendant. For users who need full care there are comfort wheelchairs.

Choosing by frame material

Steel wheelchairs are sturdy and affordable. Lightweight wheelchairs are lighter, so they are easier to transport and lift over thresholds. Comfort wheelchairs with an adjustable angle and headrest are intended for comprehensive care.

Quality and support

All wheelchairs are CE-marked medical devices. Our specialists will help you choose the right seat width and configuration. Steel and lightweight wheelchairs can also be hired or rented from us — online or in our shop.

Frequently asked questions

How do I choose the right seat width?

The seat width is determined by measuring the user’s hip width while seated and adding a few centimetres for comfort and clothing. The right width provides both comfort and stability.

What is the difference between a steel and a lightweight wheelchair?

A steel wheelchair is sturdy and cheaper but heavier; a lightweight one is easier to transport but usually more expensive. The choice depends on whether the wheelchair will often need to be lifted into a car.

Can I hire a wheelchair?

Yes. Steel and lightweight wheelchairs can be hired or rented if they are only needed temporarily, for example during recovery. Contact us about the options.
